New Podcast 🌞 How Philly can Help Fund Your Solar Panels

In this episode of Real Estate Talks, we are going solar! Catherine Gacki-Hartt sat down with Jacob Head of PosiGen, a certified vendor for the Solarize Philly Initiative. We discuss how start on your solar journey, how long it takes to get a return on investment and if your house is the right fit for solar power.

More about Solarize Philly Initiative and Posigen

Solarize Philly is a citywide program to help all Philadelphians go solar. The Philadelphia Energy Authority (PEA) launched Solarize Philly to make the process of installing solar as easy and affordable as possible, while also supporting solar training at the School District of Philadelphia and improving access to clean energy for all neighborhoods.

PEA has carefully selected high quality installers and equipment, and negotiated discounted prices and important consumer protections to help Philadelphians go solar at their homes and businesses.

PosiGen’s mission is to “give low and middle income families access to affordable solar and energy efficiency to dramatically cut their energy costs and improve their lives.”

The program provides both solar panels and roofing materials. If you already need work done on your roof, this program can be a more affordable wa, particularly if you're low to moderate income, like it's a good way to kind of take advantage of that.

You can purchase the panels or you can lease them. Traditionally with the lease, you're saving money each month. So there's no investment costs. You just save a little bit of money every month and it adds up if you make the purchase. Traditionally, you start to see your investment in as soon as seven years.

What Is the Ideal Home for Solar Panel Installation?

A house that's sun blasted with minimum obstructions is ideal. Trees, neighbors, and the positioning of the house can all pose problems - there's a lot of things that go into play.

The panels are super simple technology. They just sit up on the roof and then collect DC current energy and then just invert that into AC energy that you can use in your house.

How To Apply

Going solar through the City of Philadelphia’s initiative ensures that everything from vendors to installers is above board and certified. You can rest easy knowing that your high quality solar panels are being installed by experts in the Philly area.
